Peperomia caperata Schumi Red

Schumi Red is a relatively new variety of Peperomia caperata, a plant native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil. It’s noted for its outstanding foliage color and relatively compact habit compared to older varieties. This gives it a tighter, more mound like appearance. Like most other Peperomia varieties, it has tiny bloom spikes that usually appear in summer and fall. Many people don’t like the appearance of these bloom spikes. Happily, they’re easy to pinch off as they appear, and cutting them off doesn’t harm the plant in any way. Like many other tropical rainforest plants, Schumi Red Peperomia prefers average to above-average household humidity levels. Its small size makes it an excellent terrarium plant.
