Pineapple lily gets its name from its spectacular pineapple-like flowers that appear throughout the summer. This tender bulb, grows as easily in pots and planters as it does planted directly in the flower border. The showy plants develop long strap-like green foliage that's often brushed with purple or maroon highlights. Pineapple lily flowers come in cream, white, or pink and appear on spikes in the center of the plant and are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Pineapple lily is also deer and rabbit resistant. It is a perennial in zones 8-10.

Pineapple Lily Growing Instructions

Pineapple lily prefers a sunny spot and moist, but well-drained soil. Don't let the plants sit in wet soil or the bulbs may rot. In the northern part of its range, pineapple lily bulbs need to be dug and stored in a frost-free place over the winter. You can replant the bulbs after frost danger has passed in the spring.

Pineapple lily is not recommended for human or animal consumption.
